In March of 2024, David Tortorello joined The Vertex Companies, LLC (Vertex) as its CEO. He plans on applying the growth strategies that he outlined to his DRT Consulting Group clients to Vertex in the coming months. David is exited for this opportunity, as Vertex is a premier professional services provider in the construction disputes space, which aligns with his experience at Navigant and Ankura. He also sees global expansion and international arbitration as big opportunities for Vertex to capture in the years ahead.

With 35 years’ experience as a highly effective executive and leader, David Tortorello has built his success on his ability to grow global businesses and talented organizations. Over the course of his stellar career, David built, expanded, and led multi-million dollar practices in leading consulting firms, increasing revenue and profit while investing in the professional growth and advancement of his teams. This intersection of strategic vision, pragmatic business leadership, and talent development has enabled him to become a trusted coach helping executives grow and advance their careers.

35 Year Career Success

Prior to founding DRT Consulting Group, David’s responsibilities and impact grew rapidly from client-focused project management and advisory roles early in his career, to executive leadership at business consulting and expert services firms Peterson and Navigant Consulting. At Peterson Consulting, he was named a Partner and to the firm’s Board of Directors early in his tenure, doubling revenue and retaining key talent during turbulent firm and market periods. After deep involvement in Peterson’s sale to Navigant in 1998, David was named Practice Leader of Navigant’s Global Construction Practice which he grew into a multimillion dollar market leading business. In 2015, he was promoted to General Manager of Navigant Consulting’s Global Disputes, Forensics and Legal, Technology (DFLT) Segment which was valued at $470 million with over 700 professionals in 33 offices in the Americas, EMEA, and Asia-Pacific, delivering one-third of Navigant’s total revenue. David built the DFLT Segment’s vision, growth strategy, and talent, and successfully led its sale in 2018 to Ankura, a global advisory firm servicing clients across a wide range of economic, governance, and regulatory challenges.

Business Growth Acumen

David has extensive experience assisting companies in growth through acquisitions. Over his career David has identified numerous strategic acquisitions that would fit with company growth and culture requirements. He has reviewed over 30 different companies, determined which would meet those specific requirements then analyzed the accretive benefit to his firm. This resulted in acquiring multiple companies and integrating them to be positioned to deliver outstanding results. During his tenure at Navigant, David took his $10 million Construction Disputes and Advisory practice and grew it to a $100 million practice with gross margin over 45%.

Impressive Expert Experience

David has been a recognized subject matter expert in construction claims analysis, engineering design, scheduling, and cost analysis for major infrastructure developments, and has testified in state and federal courts and in arbitration and mediation proceedings concerning various scheduling and cost issues.  He has directed the analysis of hundreds of construction claims, worked on some of the highest profile cases including the World Trade Center Complex Building, the Pittsburgh International Airport, and FBI Headquarters in Washington, DC, and recovered billions of dollars in value for his clients during his career.
